What is Wellness?

To me, wellness is not so much a state of being, but a state of living. It's not the absence of illness or disease, and it’s not a point on the horizon that we hope to reach one day.

Rather, it's the pursuit of mental, physical, emotional, even spiritual, well-being. It's an active process of becoming more aware of and making choices toward living well and being well.

It's a journey we each can enjoy.

I love fresh air, dark chocolate, black coffee, citrus in winter, sourdough, sunrises, broken-in sweaters, cooking, eating, and feeding people. Once upon a time, I was a school-teacher-turned-college-professor, but now I'm a wife, a mom of three young sons, and the creator of this site.

Over the years, I’ve learned how our daily practices—the ritual of eating, moving, how we treat our bodies—can make an enormous difference in how we feel and live each day. In my own journey, I’ve grown deeply passionate about real food, slow living, and natural wellness.

Even so, I know how hard it can be to live well and be well in this fast-paced, packaged-food world. I hope this site will be a useful resource for you, and that we can join hands and walk this path together.
